On October 16th, Aloha Charity hosted AC Recess at George Washington Bicentennial Grove in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. With over 100 people in attendance, 15 teams competed in speed, agility, eating and brain games. Participants stuffed their faces with watermelon, spun in circles, strained their brains and fell over each other to reach the finish line. Congratulations to AC Recess champions “Gnar Patrol” (Steve Rice, Ben Grunat, Davy Grunat and Ben Avery)! Check out all the photos from AC Recess on Facebook in Album #1 & Album #2.
A special thank you to Aidells Sausage Company, DJ CoCo and volunteers! The event’s success was driven by the help of the following volunteers:
- Kevin Bric
- Scott Bright
- Davy Grunat
- Megan Keir
- Sean Mann
- Jenica Mariani
AC Recess raised just over $2,000 and the proceeds funded a field trip for students of Real Options for City Kids (ROCK). 25 kids and 12 Aloha volunteers took a school bus to the University of San Francisco stadium to cheer on the women’s volleyball team on November 16th.
The ROCK kids recently finished a volleyball clinic and Aloha Charity believed it would be fun to reward the students with field trip to a college volleyball game. Most importantly, we saw this as an opportunity to introduce the students to a college campus for their first time.
After a tour of the athletic facility and lunch provided by Aloha, volunteers and students moved to the bleachers for the game. We were the loudest in the crowd, cheering the USF Dons Women’s Volleyball team to their first home game win of the season. After the game, the kids received booklets and posters which they used to get autographs from all the players.
The Aloha volunteers had a wonderful time interacting with the students and students loved having us there.
A special thank you to the Aloha volunteers who chaperoned:
- Devon Chow
- Brandon Denham
- Nicholas Dieringer
- Megan Keir
- Cara Luckiesh
- Gustavo Gomez
- Javier Gutierrez
- Kim Soennichsen
Happy Holidays from Aloha Charity. We look forward to seeing you in 2011!
